PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hinge apparatus configured such that the opening and closing movement is carried out by turning an overlapped portion in the almost horizontal direction along the overlapped surfaces, and further to provide an electronic instrument using the same hinge apparatus. SOLUTION: In the hinge apparatus, a first member 1 is pivotally mounted on a second member 2 and is turned relative to the second member 2. A rotary shaft portion 4 is provided on a first connecting portion 3 connected to the first member 1 or the second member 2. A bearing portion 6 rotatably engaged with the rotary shaft portion 4 is provided on a second connecting portion 5 connected to the second member 2 or the first member 1. A cam portion 8, which turns together with the bearing portion 6 and has a plurality of projecting portions 7, and a cam engaging portion 10, which turns together with the bearing portion 6 and has a plurality of recessed portions 9, are provided on the second connecting portion 5. An engagement energizing mechanism 11 is provided so as to energize the cam engaging portion in the engagement direction when at least one of the cam portion 8 and the cam engaging portion 10 has moved in the disengagement direction in the engagement and disengagement operation.
