<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a charcoal used in improving water quality from a low-carbon carbonaceous material such as mangrove charcoal. <P>SOLUTION: The production method comprises crushing a low-carbon carbonaceous material to a size of the order of 3 to 10 mm, putting the broken carbonaceous material in metallic boxes having such a depth as not to cause heating unevenness in the carbonaceous material, isolating the carbonaceous material from open air by covering each box with a metallic cover having gas blow ports, piling up the carbonation boxes each composed of the carbonaceous material and the cover in a manner that the boxes are apart from each other by a space that allows sufficient pass of a combustion gas, igniting the heating fuel from the ignition port of a charcoal-making oven to heat the carbonaceous material inside the carbonation boxes, burning the volatile component formed from the carbonaceous material and emerging from the gas blow ports as the carbonaceous material in the carbonation boxes are heated with air entering from the ignition port, keeping the charcoal-making oven together with the heating fuel at a desired carbonation temperature, withdrawing the carbonation boxes from the charcoal-making oven after the carbonation of the carbonaceous material in the carbonation boxes is finished, and leaving the carbonized carbonaceous material standing and cooling in air without removing the carbonaceous material therefrom. When added to tap water, the obtained charcoal used in improving water quality violently produces bubbles to change the pH of the tap water to an alkali side within 10 or fewer minutes. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
