<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable light attenuator which can perform passive alignment without requiring light axis adjustment only by arranging an optical element. <P>SOLUTION: The variable light attenuator attenuates and outputs an inputted optical signal and is provided with an input side optical fiber ferrule 11 in which the optical signal is inputted, an output side optical fiber ferrule 12 which outputs the optical signal from the input side optical fiber ferrule 11, a ball lens 13 which condenses the optical signal from the input side optical fiber ferrule 11 to the output side optical fiber ferrule 12, and a cylindrical piezoelectric element 21 having a side to be a positional reference for matching and arranging the optical axis to the input side optical fiber ferrule 11, the output side optical fiber ferrule 12, and the ball lens 13. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
