摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bright high-quality liquid crystal apparatus having a high contrast ratio by reducing alignment failure in the liquid crystal due to an alignment film by a method for not decreasing the aperture ratio of each pixel. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal apparatus 100 comprises: a device substrate 110 having active elements and pixel electrodes 115; a counter substrate 120 disposed opposing to the device substrate and having a counter electrode 123 opposing to the pixel electrodes; and a liquid crystal layer disposed between the device substrate and the counter substrate. The inner faces of the device substrate and the counter substrate are provided with alignment films 116, 124 comprising a columnar structure of an inorganic material inclined in a predetermined direction with respect to the substrate surface. The liquid crystal layer essentially comprises liquid crystal molecules 130m having positive dielectric anisotropy. The pretilt angleθ1 of the liquid crystal molecules on the alignment film 116 of the device substrate ranges from 10°to 45°, while the pretilt angleθ2 of the liquid crystal molecules on the alignment film 124 of the counter substrate ranges from 0°to less than 10°.
