PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve ignitability in generating a gas flow in a combustion chamber. SOLUTION: A side electrode 13b of an ignition plug 13 is disposed downstream in a swirl flow S of a center electrode 13a. A swirl flow control valve generates a swirl flow S in the combustion chamber. While air-fuel mixture is generated from the fuel which is injected from injection holes 12a-12d of a fuel injection valve 12 by the swirl flow S, the fuel is carried to the side electrode 13b of the ignition plug 13. The side electrode 13b decreases the flow velocity of the air-fuel mixture to improve the ignitability. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
