The combustion method has part of the flue gases leaving the steam generator (1) fed to a separate heat exchanger (5), for recovery of heat which is transferred to a partial flow of the cooled and cleaned flue gases fed back to the steam generator. The heat exchanger can be combined with an oxygen pre-heater.
