The unit has a rotatable hub (10,11), a brake rotor (40) with internal radial protrusions forming first radial surfaces, an annular brake carrier fixed to the hub with a flat surface (34) perpendicular to the rotation axis and able to contact the brake rotor axially, a number of seats (36) for the protrusions for transferring braking torque from the rotor to the brake carrier, a peripheral groove (38) and an annular clamp element (50) arranged in the groove for exerting an elastic radial force so that the rotor is pressed axially against the flat surface of the brake carrier.
