The solid matter filter (14) for a pipe (10) has a fitting device connected to the filter adjacent to a first support point of the filter. The first support point is provided on one side of the filter and comes to bear against an inner wall of the pipe. The filter after fitting in the pipe is adjusted from the first support point at an angle to the flow direction of a flow medium carried in the pipe. The filter is fitted through an opening in the pipe wall and fills out the inside diameter of the pipe.
