The device has a protective circuit, limiting objectionable current passing via a semiconductor switch (Q2), including switching transistors coupled to exits of voltage dividers (R3, R4). The dividers shift the current limit in the switch from higher drain-source-voltage to lower values when an additional current is fed into the dividers via a transistor by applying drain-source voltage of the switch to the transistor base. An independent claim is also included for a control device with an electronic switch device.
