<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of an optical fiber capable of stably manufacturing an optical fiber having a targeted wavelength dispersion characteristic using an optical fiber preform having a nonuniform refractory index profile along the direction of its length. <P>SOLUTION: In this method, a targeted wiredrawing diameter is preliminarily set to obtain the targeted wavelength dispersion characteristic of an optical fiber based on the refractory index distribution of an optical fiber preform, and a certain length of the material is wiredrawn with the targeted wiredrawing diameter and the characteristic of the optical fiber thus obtained is measured, based on the measured characteristic it is judged if the initially targeted wavelength dispersion characteristic is attained, if not, the targeted wiredrawing diameter is corrected to attain the targeted wavelength dispersion characteristic, and the rest of the optical fiber preform is wiredrawn. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
