<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for drawing an optical fiber preform whereby drawing precision and yield of the optical fiber preform are improved. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for drawing the optical fiber preform 1, both ends of the optical fiber preform 1 are held with gripping means 2 and 3, a heating means 4 is moved relative to the optical fiber preform 1 between the gripping means, and either or both of the gripping means 2 and 3 are moved in the pulling direction to draw the optical fiber preform 1 into a prescribed outside diameter. Here, the relative moving speed of the heating means 4 to the optical fiber preform 1 is changed in proportion to a before-drawing outside diameter ratio [D<SB>max</SB>/D(x)]<SP>n</SP>(wherein D(x) is the outside diameter of the optical fiber preform 1 at position x in a longitudinal direction; D<SB>max</SB>is the maximum diameter; and n is 2-3). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
