<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring composition for a color filter that has high dispersibility, a superior spectroscopic characteristics, and proper contrast, and is capable of forming a high-definition blue pixel image. <P>SOLUTION: The coloring composition for a color filter contains a blue pigment 15:6 and a violet pigment derivative, in which -SO<SB>3</SB>H group, -SO<SB>2</SB>NH(CH<SB>2</SB>)<SB>L</SB>NR<SB>1</SB>R<SB>2</SB>, and phthalimidemethyl group are introduced to a C.I. pigment violet 23. R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>represent, respectively a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or aromatic hydrocarbon radical that may be substituted with 1-20 carbon numbers, or a heterocyclic ring that may contain nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur atoms, along with adjoining nitrogen atoms.
