PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging method which can deliver an optimum image to a screen display of a personal computer by switching a system for reading an imaging signal from an imaging means to a suitable system when the delivered image is not restricted by a television format, and to provide a program for the imaging apparatus. SOLUTION: The imaging method includes a step of reading a progressive signal or a signal of only strip field from a CCD in response to the transmission speed of a network when the output delivered from a video camera connected directly to the network is not restricted by the television format.
