PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission, in which load distribution in rolling elements can be as equal as possible. SOLUTION: This toroidal type continuously variable transmission is provided with a thrust bearing 39 to bear a thrust load added to a power roller 11. The thrust bearing 39 comprises an inner ring 81 formed of the power roller 11, an outer ring 41, and a plurality of rolling elements 82 to roll between the inner ring 81 and the outer ring 41. Rigidity of the outer ring 41 is set to be lower in the direction of an inclination axis O of a trunnion 6, and higher in a perpendicular direction L to the direction of the inclination axis O.
