A gas pipe is assembled in sections with a sleeve-fit by cold forming join. On assembly a cutting ring (3) is inserted between the end-fitting of one pipe (1) and the next section (4). The cutting ring has a cutting edge that embeds itself either in the sleeve or outer surface of the inner pipe.
