The automobile passenger seat has a backrest with a backrest frame (1) supporting a holder (2) for a headrest, displaced from an initial position into a deployed position in contact with the head of the passenger and locked in the deployed position by a spring-loaded blocking device. A return spring (4) is used for movement of headrest holder from the deployed position into the initial position, after release of the blocking device via a manual release element, for movement of a spring-loaded ratchet element out of engagement with a ratchet opening of the headrest holder.
