<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection device for inspecting food by irradiating the food with an electromagnetic wave with a specific wavelength possessed by the DNA structure of food, modified protein, bacteria or a virus, and an inspection method using it. <P>SOLUTION: This food inspection device has a variable wavelength electromagnetic wave generating means capable of irradiating food with the electromagnetic wave with a frequency of 0.1-10 THz inherent to the constituent element of the food and a detection means for the electromagnetic wave with the frequency of 0.1-10 THz.
