PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lower the voltage of an AC electric field in a display device which performs display operation by moving moving plates placed in cell-shaped areas filled with liquid through the operation of the AC electric field. SOLUTION: The dielectric constant of the transparent liquid 20 filling the cell-shaped areas 30a, 30b, ..., is made larger than the dielectric constants of the moving plates 40a, 40b, ..., which can move in the cell-shaped areas 30a, 30b, ..., and tilts of the moving plates 40a, 40b, ..., in the cell-shaped areas 30a, 30b, ..., are changed through the operation of the electric field produced by an electric field producing means 50 to perform display operation.
