PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tester for performing a test by inputting an initial spring height and a maximally deformed spring height. SOLUTION: A position at which an upper holder 21 and a lower holder 22 are put into contact with each other is deemed as spring height zero of a spring height counter 38. A distance between the upper and lower holders is adjusted so that the counter value of the height counter 38 equals to an initial height of a springy test piece TP to set the test piece TP between the upper and lower holders 21 and 22. A detection value of a load cell 19 and that of a pulse encoder 18 are collected while imposing a load on the test piece TP by a servo motor 16 in between a state in which the counter value of the height counter 38 designates an initial spring height and a state in which it designates a predetermined maximum spring deformation amount.
