PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas wiping device for adjusting the plating coating weight of a steel strip, which has excellent effect of improving an edge over coat even in the light gage steel strip and can ameliorate the problem of the adhesion of a granular zinc lump caused at the steel strip end surface of the heavy gage steel strip and a method for adjusting the plating coating weight of the steel strip. SOLUTION: The gas wiping device having gas wiping nozzles for adjusting the plating coating weight of the steel strip and edge plates in the extension direction in the transverse direction of the steel strip is equipped with gas guide sections for guiding the wiping gas flowing down along the surfaces of the edge plates in the lower parts of the respective surfaces of the edge plates.
