The equipment (1) has a setpoint adjuster (6) to provide optimal values for control outputs (11) that control a number of reference revolution per minute and pitch of surface-cutting propellers (22), based on navigation and direction parameters (7,8) of a ship. Blades of the propellers are adjusted based on the outputs so that a wing of one propeller takes over the function of a rudder blade, in case of breakdown of other propeller. The wing of broke-down propeller is positioned in zero position as per the rudder blade speed for straight navigation of ship. An independent claim is also included for a method of controlling propulsion of a ship.
