<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user-friendly image selection method and a printing method. <P>SOLUTION: An index image of each directory is extracted as a print object from a plurality of images stored under directories in a file system. Each index image 10002 and a directory number 10003 showing an index number of the directory where each index image is stored are printed.
