<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit only the rightful user to make entry of information by handwriting. <P>SOLUTION: When the user handwrites "authentication request" and then handwrites a user ID etc., a handwriting input pen 26 outputs handwriting data showing those characters to an input device 20. The input device 20 recognizes the characters that the user handwrites and transmits the recognized user ID and name, the handwriting data showing pen traces, etc., to a pen information server 16. The pen information server 16 compares the handwritten data, pen pressure data, etc., sent from the input device 20 with previously registered handwritten data. When it is recognized that they are within the same range, the pen information server 16 authenticates and allows the user to input information.
