PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carriage unit and a recording apparatus, which can establish compatibility between the downsizing of the apparatus and a reduction in component replacement cost, and which can prevent image quality from being deteriorated by vibrations (shakes) caused by play, even if recording is done by moving a recording means at a high speed. SOLUTION: The carriage unit 30 movable along guide shafts 102 and 103 comprises a head unit 1 wherein a recording head 3 is integrally connected to a frame body 2 with bearings 6 and 7 to be fitted into the guide shafts 102 and 103, and a cable unit 20 which has a flexible cable 22 mounted with an encoder sensor 21; the head unit and the cable unit are detachably connected together; and the recording head of the head unit and the flexible cable of the cable unit are electrically connected together via a connector 23 in a separable manner.
