PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a monitoring system having a compact device, easily mountable on machine equipment, and capable of determining existence of an abnormality caused by abrasion or breakage of a component of a sliding member in the ordinary using state without decomposing the sliding member, and preventing wrong diagnosis following a failure of the system itself. SOLUTION: This system is equipped with a sensor unit 5 assembled into a constituting member of the sliding member 3, for detecting a physical quantity at the sliding operation time of the sliding member 3, and a microcomputer 7 as an information processing part for analyzing an output from the sensor unit 5 by a prescribed operation processing, comparing the analysis result with reference data prepared beforehand, and determining existence of an abnormality in the sliding member. At least either of the sensor unit 5 and the microcomputer 7 has at least either function of a fail-safe function and a self-diagnosis function. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
