PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup means and an apparatus thereof in which a storage system of image data is selected depending on an image pickup state. SOLUTION: When an image pickup signal is stored in a storage apparatus so as to be reproducible, predetermined color information is detected from the image pickup signal and reliability of white balance processing is determined (S302), and image data to be stored in the storage apparatus are selected from RAW data S304 in which a digital signal outputted from the image pickup element is digitized and image data S307, S308, generated from the RAW data, of format different from the RAW data.
