A computer tomography installation data and signal transmission procedure uses FPGAs (Field Programmable Gate Arrays) to control (22) the sending of digitised analogue and logical signals and digital data together over a transmission line (20) between different units (13-14) using serial multiplexing (23) with packet lengths minimised to suit a preset update rate. Independent claims are included for a medical computer tomography installation using the procedures and for the inclusion in some packets of higher protocols such as CAN or TCP/IP.
