<p>An information processing apparatus and method for allowing efficient content management and search/retrieval to be performed. Content attribute information is acquired from a recording medium, such as CD or the like, or via a network or as user input data. An artist name is extracted from the acquired content attribute information, and acronym information is decided based on the artist name. The acronym information is then stored in and registered, as content management information, with a data storage device. The registered information can be edited. This arrangement allows a data search or a sort to be performed with the acronym information used as a search key. Moreover, the acronyms can be automatically decided and registered regardless of the types of the artist names, such as those expressed by alphabets, Japanese letters and the like, thereby realizing efficient, quick production and registration of management data with user's operational labor reduced.</p> |
