PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field emission display equipped with a gate hole having slanted inner walls between an anode plate with phosphor and a cathode plate having a field emitter and a control element for controlling voltage as well as a gate electrode around an upper part of the gate hole. SOLUTION: The display is provided with belt-shape matrix signal lines enabling matrix addressing at an upper part of a base plate and each pixel defined by a row signal line and a column signal line. Each pixel has a film-type field emitter and two terminals coupled at least with the matrix signal lines and one terminal coupled with the film-type field emitter, as well as a cathode plate equipped with a control element controlling the field emitter, an anode plate equipped with the phosphor, a gate plate equipped with the gate hole having slanted inner walls and a gate electrode around the top part of the gate hole, and a spacer supporting between the gate plate and the anode plate.
