PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic optical component which is light in weight, inexpensive and has superior characteristics, suitable for mass production and moisture-proofing and will not change its optical characteristics, such as its refractive index, even if it is affected by moisture in the environment. SOLUTION: The plastic optical component of this invention has its main optical component made of plastic, and a transparent moisture-proof film covering its whole surface and satisfying the following formula (1): (D1/d)×(L/D2) <10, where the water diffusion factor of the material forming the moisture-proof film is D1 (mm<SP>2</SP>/s), its thickness d(mm), the water diffusion coefficient of the material of the optical component body D2 (mm<SP>2</SP>/s), and the average thickness of its optical surface L (mm).
