PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten the time required for extraction in an extraction apparatus and an extraction method using a supercritical fluid. SOLUTION: A sample enveloped and sealed in a polymer film 12 is housed in a sample container 3, and the sample container 3 is arranged, in such a way that its axis may be approximately horizontal and provided with both a first opening part 3a at one end and a second opening part 3b at the other end in the axial direction. An extract solvent, a supercritical fluid, is alternately circulated from either one of the first opening part 3a or the second opening part 3b to the other, by changing the direction of circulation at every prescribed period of time to extract a soluble component from the sample. Since undissolved components in the sample thereby moves axially in an inner part partitioned by the polymer film 12 and suppressed from remaining in one location, circulation of the extract solvent passing through the polymer film 12 is suppressed from being inhibited, and the time required for extracting the soluble component can be shortened.
