The invention discloses a desiccant composition, which includes in combination a desiccant material including calcium chloride and at least one volatile corrosion inhibitor. The desiccant composition can be used to prevent corrosion of metallic components in a confined space. At least one of the volatile corrosion inhibitors includes at least one component selected from the group consisting of phenols, hydroquinone, aliphatic amines, aromatic amines, thiazoles, triazoles, imidazoles and mixtures of any of the afore-going.
