<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a device for performing encoding to a plurality of image data sequences and decoding to the plurality of encoded image data sequences. <P>SOLUTION: The device for performing encoding to the plurality of image data sequences and decoding to the plurality of encoded image data sequences comprises interface control circuits (307, 308) for performing read and write to a memory area, an encoding and decoding circuit (312) for selectively performing encoding to the image data of one sequence written in the memory area or decoding to the encoded image data of one sequence, and a plurality of registers (308-311) for instructing a processing to the encoding and decoding circuit. The encoding and decoding circuit performs encoding and decoding in a time division manner by a sequence unit to the image data of the plurality of sequences according to an instruction by the registers.
