There is provided a pointer control device for detecting a pupil position and detecting presence/absence of a pupil, thereby replacing a general-purpose mouse. By using a combination of a near infrared light source and a camera, two or one pupil is detected in a face image and the cursor on a personal computer screen is moved by movement, especially rotation of a head, in accordance with the spatial position of the pupil moving in a plane almost parallel to the personal computer screen. Opening/closing of eyelid is also detected. Not only the signal corresponding to the movement of the cursor but also a signal corresponding to mouse button pressing is outputted, thereby performing click and drag. |
