PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surrounding situation display unit which can precisely calculate a distance from an own vehicle to another vehicle and display the surrounding situation of the own vehicle. SOLUTION: By a photographed image of the rear of own vehicle photographed using a camera 1, another vehicle is detected by a microcomputer 4, and, on the basis of the photographed image, a space lateral azimuthal angle of the vehicle is obtained. Furthermore, by wheel speed pulses detected by a vehicle sensor 2, the behavior of own vehicle is obtained by the microcomputer 4, and a running lane of the another vehicle is inferred. Then, by calculating an intersection point between a directional line extending in the direction of the space lateral azimuthal angle and the running lane as the position of the another vehicle, a distance from the own vehicle to the another vehicle is calculated, and the another vehicle around the own vehicle are displayed on a monitor 5.
