In a disc brake (1), a pair of pads (33) are disposed on opposite sides of a disc (12). A caliper body (16) extends over the disc. A piston (17) is slidably held in the caliper body on a side opposite to the disc relative to the corresponding pad. In the caliper body, a prepared hole (31A) for a bore (31) into which the piston is slidably fitted and a recess (63) extending from a bottom portion of the prepared hole outwardly in a radial direction of the prepared hole are formed by means of a core during casting. A linear passage opening (75) is formed by cutting from an exterior surface of the caliper body so as to communicate with the recess. In this disc brake, an opening for forming a brake fluid passage (75-77,38) can be easily formed by machining, resulting in high production efficiency.
