Disclosed is a planar pneumatically extensible device in the form of a hollow member (1), comprising a gas-tight mantle (17) which can be impinged upon by compressed gas and one end of which is fastened to a fixed structure (2) while the other end thereof supports a front plate (7). The top side and bottom side of the mantle (7) are connected by means of webs (9) which run substantially parallel to each other and are provided with openings that are used as passages for the compressed gas as well as for guiding means (5) and spring elements (6). In the embodiment shown, said guiding means (5) which are fastened to the front plate (7) consist of telescopic bars while the spring elements consist of coil springs. The front plate (7) can be provided with a cushioning (16). The spring elements (6) pull the front plate (7) towards the fixed structure (2) and provide an accordion-type shape to the hollow member (1) in the unpressurized state. Compressed gas that is delivered acts counter to the force of the spring elements (6) and extends the hollow member until the front plate reaches the maximum excursion thereof, which is defined by means of final stops. |
