Method for quantitative analysis of uranium in nuclear fuel containers

A method for determining the uranium content in a container of nuclear material is presented. The method includes the steps of: detecting the gamma-ray emissions due to the natural radioactive decay of the nuclear material in a number of zones of the container; analysing the gamma-ray signals from each of the zones to determine for each zone a gamma-ray count of gamma-rays having an energy of 1001 keV; and determining an indication of the total uranium-238 content in the container based on the gamma-ray counts determined for the zones.
