The present invention relates to a method of monitoring a network comprising: assigning of first time stamps to data packet samples of a data stream by an ingress node of the network, each data packet of the data stream having an identifier, transmitting of messages indicative of the identifiers of the data packet samples and their assigned first time stamps to an egress node of the network, assigning of second time stamps to the data packet samples of the data stream received by the egress node of the network, storing the second time stamps in a database using the identifiers of the data packets received by the egress node as keys, retrieving of second time stamps from the database using the identifiers received by means of the messages as keys, performing an evaluation of the network performance on the basis of the first time stamps and the second time stamps that have been received from the database. <IMAGE>
