928,230. Hedge-cutters; mowing machines. W. G. LUPTON. Sept. 23, 1960 [Oct. 27, 1959], No. 36324/59. Classes 6(2) and 6(3). The cutting mechanism of a machine for trimming hedges comprises a central driven shaft 13 supporting a plurality of ancillary shafts 16 which are parallel to the central shaft and have Rail-type cutters 17 mounted thereon, the mechanism being covered by a hood 10 so as to produce suction in the latter as the cutters rotate for the purpose of drawing the trimmings into a duct 19 associated with the hood. The cutter is pivotally mounted on the free end of a boom 3 extending from one side of a tractor and adjustable in both horizontal and vertical planes, the latter adjustment being effected by means of the hydraulic ram and cylinder arrangement 6, 7. The cutter mechanism is driven from a hydraulic or other motor 14, and in operation the cutters co-operate with the sharpened lower edge of the hood to effect a cut. As disclosed in the Provisional Specification, a driven, vertical shaft is mounted for vertical adjustment on a tractor, and has at its upper end a secondary shaft on which cutter blades are articulated, drive from the vertical shaft being transmitted to the secondary shaft to rotate the cutter blades which are situated in close proximity to the mouth of a duct for gathering the trimmings. |
