The device for the reduction of oscillations of an elevator car (1) guided on rails (15) includes several guide elements, a sensor (11,12) to record the position changes of the elevator car and/or accelerations acting upon it, an actuator (10) between the elevator car and guide elements, and a control unit (19) which has a variable amplification depending upon the vertical speed of the elevator car. The control unit has a time delay device which continuously raises the amplification after an activating of the control unit or lowers it after a deactivating.
