An apparatus for forming a nonwoven web is disclosed comprising: a melt spinning apparatus configured to discharge thermoplastic filaments and configured to discharge air that impinges the thermoplastic filaments; an air-permeable collector positioned to collect the thermoplastic filaments and form the nonwoven web; and first and second air handlers including intake openings positioned below said air-permeable collector; and further comprising first and second variable speed air moving devices each coupled with one of said intake openings.
