In a network having a master and slaves, each slave calculates a slave ability value as a performance parameter and transmits it to the master. According to the performance parameter from each slave, the master selects a backup mater as a candidate of the next period master and provides the address and BM information of the selected backup mater including synchronization information to each slave. When the master is disconnected, the slave can promptly decide the next period master according to the backup master information and connect it.
