A substantially horizontal subterranean drainage pattern for accessing a substantially quadrilateral area of a subterranean zone. The drainage pattern includes a substantially horizontal diagonal well bore from which a first set of substantially horizontal lateral well bores extend on a first side of the diagonal well bore. A second set of substantially horizontal lateral well bores extend from the diagonal well bore on a second side thereof.
