In a wide angle objective consisting of two simple positive inner components and two negative outer doublets, all components being meniscus concave towards a diaphragm between the inner components, the following conditions hold:- (1) the inner elements and the doublets are negative and of a higher dispersion than the elements converted thereto, (2) the outer radii of the objective, R1 and R10, differ at most by 0. 03 f, where f is the focal length, (3) the inner radii of the doublets, R3 and Re, differ at most by 0. 03 f.
