The cylinder (2) is provided with a pin (32) having a surface (34) which can be heated to a temperature at which it glows and this temperature is electronically controlled via its power supply. The heating-up of the pin surface is controlled so that it reaches its maximum temperature in order to obtain the earliest desired ignition time.
