The coupling has a coupling pin (2) actuated by an automatic coupling unit (3). A fixing device (14) is provided on a wall (13) lying opposite to an opening (12) of a coupling mouth (1). A contour-adapting element (4) is detachably fixed in the coupling mouth. The contour-adapting element is interchangeably provided or includes knobs for adapting the coupling mouth to different sizes of towing rings. The contour-adapting element is latchable in two positions. The knobs are in engagement with a group of recesses in one of the positions and with another group of recesses in the other position.
