Described is a method for sterilizing a bioactive material, such as material derived from living tissue, live cells, proteinaceous materials and drugs. Sterilization is achieved by irradiating the bioactive material with ionizing radiation while it is in contact with hydrogen gas. Intended use of the sterilized bioactive material includes medical/ surgical applications.
