Laser ablation cleaning of a surface (218) in a zone (206) contaminated e.g. by radioactivity uses a laser beam (216) emitted by a cavity (204) linked to a pump (202) delivering electromagnetic radiation to the cavity through an optical fiber (210) over 5 m long, so that the pump is kept outside the cleaning zone. The laser beam is emitted in pulses, while the electromagnetic radiation is delivered continuously from the pump through fibers (215) with diodes. An independent claim is included for an apparatus for laser ablation cleaning.
