Industrial effluent biological treatment procedure uses analysis to select most suitable microorganisms to degrade constituent substances

The treatment procedure consists of the following stages: analysis of the effluent to determine the composition and concentration of the substances it contains; selection of microorganisms suitable for degrading the constituent substances; preparing a sample of the effluent, water and nutrients in a vessel (4); introducing the contents of the vessel and selected microorganisms into a fermentation tank (2); heating and oxygenating the tank and incorporating its contents into a tank containing the effluent to be treated. The selected micro-organisms should be in a sufficient quantity to neutralise by nutritional competition the micro organisms contained in the effluent. Where necessary, nutrients required for the development of the micro-organisms are selected and added to make up for an insufficiency in the effluent.
